ATL’s, what for?

Automated Test Lane

MOT testing stations in the UK now have the choice to opt for ATL’s to greatly enhance the testing procedure and reduce the labour burden as only one person is required to complete the MOT test.

How will the ATL differ from a conventional test bay?

The ATL test bay will include an automated brake tester and axle play detector. The brake tester is PC based, using menu driven software to automatically start the rollers once the vehicle has driven on to them. Both wheels on each axle are tested at the same time and as the roller set incorporates an axle weighing system to enable automatic calculations of the braking efficiency. The automated axle play detectors are incorporated into the lift and operated by one person using a hand held control device, which removes the need for an assistant to rock the steering or suspension systems.

Class I & II Motorcycle MOT Package

Class 4 MoT Bay

Vehicle Lift: The vehicle lift is at the heart of the MOT bay and provides both a means of under-body inspection and also a level standing area in most MOT layouts.

  • 4 Post lift or Scissor Lift

Jacking Beam & Radius plates: For MOT purposes the vehicle lift must be fitted with a jacking beam and captive radius turning plates. We supply a 2.0t capacity roller mounted jacking beam. The beam moves freely along designated channels set on the lower inside section of the lift platform. This allows the beam to give maximum clearance to vehicles entering and leaving the lift. The jacking beams have a hydraulic mechanism which is manually operated The radius turning plates are fitted at the front of the lift and run on a steel ball bearing race. The plates can be moved to suit all vehicles

Headlamp beam tester: Euro Car Parts MOT packages are supplied with a standard optical beam setter. Lateral alignment is set using a lined mirror, the beam tester is rail mounted on a 4 wheel base which provides ease of movement and great stability.

Roller Brake Tester: Euro Car Parts supplies a true high performance range of roller brake testers with a fantastic range of features:

  • Infra-red remote control
  • Galvinised roller bed and roller bed covers
  • Capable of testing 4WD vehicles.
  • Fast accurate testing
  • 1 person operation
  • Flush fitting roller beds for improved workshop safety

When installed the equipment is fully calibrated and all required certification is issued for VOSA inspection. Class 4 MoT ATL

Automated Test Lane (ATL) testing is now the most common form of MOT testing for new MOT stations. The time saving efficiencies and consistent testing methodology ensures a rapid payback on the capital invested in the test lane.

The Euro Car Parts ATL package is made up of the following items:

  • Class IV ATL Brake Teste
  • Class IV ATL Inspection lift
  • Wheel play detectors
  • Jacking Beam
  • Turning Plates
  • Mirrors
  • Brake pedal depressor

Brake Tester: The RBT4 brake tester with ATL upgrade has a 4 point axle weighing system which enables braking efficiency to be calculated and a remote test lane cabinet in which the PC and printer are housed. Test results are down loaded from the brake tester and stored on the PC for future reference. All other features and capabilities of the standard RBT 4 brake tester are retained.

Inspection Lift: The 4 post inspection lift is fitted with hydraulic wheel play detectors, and flush fitting radius turning plates. The play detectors are operated via a robust hand-lamp and provide a complete range of movements which enable the examiner to identify wear to steering suspension and chassis components.

Jacking Beam: As with the standard MOT package we supply a 2.0t capacity manually operated hydraulic jacking beam which runs on dedicated rails within the lift platform.

Mirrors: We supply and install the400mm mirrors

Brake Pedal Depressor: The brake pedal depressor is VOSA approved and is easily fitted and applied to the brake pedal in order that brake lines and other system components can be inspected whilst under loaded condition

Class 7 MoT Bay

Our Class VII MOT Equipment package is comprised of the core items of capital equipment required by VOSA for Class VII MOT Testing.

Vehicle Lift: The vehicle lift is at the heart of the MOT bay and provides both a means of under-body inspection we can offer a range of lifts to suit all types of installation including compact lifts, long wheelbase lifts and higher capacity lifts.
Our Werther 4 post and scissor lifts are manufactured in Italy to the highest engineering standards and are commonly used in MOT stations all over the UK.

Brake Testers

Euro Car Parts can offer a comprehensive range of brake testers covering all classes of UK MOT testing.

Class I & II Motorcycle Brake Tester: The BT1 brake tester has an infra red remote control allowing single man operation of the brake tester. Results are displayed on a large LED screen. The brake tester has an integral weighing system which allows the brake tester not only to measure brake force but also accurately calculate braking efficiency. Results from the brake test can be downloaded to an optional printer if required

The BT1 can be used for testing all types of motorcycle braking systems as well as motorcycle with side-cars.

Class III & IV Car Roller Brake Testers: The BT4 has a complete range of market leading features making it possibly the most advanced brake tester on the market today.
The BT4 can be supplied in either ATL or MOT specification.

As an MOT brake tester it fully conforms with VOSA testing requirements and produces highly accurate brake force readings. The brake tester is supplied in standard specification in a single roller bed assembly; the optional format is with 2 separate roller beds, suitable for retro fitting into existing floor recesses. There is also a single phase option for workshop where a 3Ph power supply is not available

Alternately the BT4 can be supplied in ATL specification. The ATL format starts with standard RBT4 hardware to which is added a 4 point axle weighing system, ATL software and a test lane cabinet fitted with 19” flat screen monitor, PC, Printer, keyboard and mouse. The brake test results are down loaded from the brake tester to the PC where they can be stored for future reference.

Class VII Van Roller Brake Testers: The BT7 Brake tester is approved for testing if Class VII and Class VL vehicles. Incorporating all of the features of the standard BT 4 the BT7 has a larger roller bed with higher measuring range and increased axle load capacity.

As with the Class IV model the BT7 can be supplied in ATL specification complete with axle weighing system and test lane cabinet, PC and printer.
